KaraokeKronicles: How Did I Get Here?

My life really isn't that interesting. I am rapidly approaching a birthday that will cause an age tragically ending in a zero. Couple that with two grandkids, and it makes it rather easy to determine my middle age status. Middle age? Only if I live to be one hundred years old!

But I sit here and wonder what might make this babble interesting. That I'm your ordinary average guy (tipping my hat to Joe Walsh)? That I have three kids and two grandkids? That I have a low-paying meaningless job? Not hardly.

There are a few things that make me interesting, or are at least interesting to me. I love to gamble, one of my few vices. I am a good blackjack player. I count cards, but the variances involved and my small bankroll makes it impossible to outride the small advantage I have playing perfect blackjack and counting. My passion in the casino is poker, but I fear I am only an average player.

I love all things involved with music and theater. I love all music, but lean towards classic rock. The Beatles are my all time favorite band, but i also love Styx, Queen, the Eagles, Van Halen, etc.

You may hear more about poker and the Beatles, but the crux of this blog will revolve around my part-time job. I am a karaoke DJ for a local company. I do shows for many places around town, several nights a week. It's a fun job. It doesnt pay a lot, but I've made a lot of friends and even have a few groupies. As you might expect, I can't identify the establishments or the names of the people I may talk about. The names have been changed to protect the innocent, as it were.

I've been doing this for about a year, and I am still going strong. I think it's interesting, and I hope you do too.

  1. Well done, Dave. Keep it up. Nice first entry, personal but with a good tease lead-in.

Looking forward to the subsequent postings.
